What this checks

  • Title length in characters and pixels, with the cut-off point shown.
  • Meta description length, separately for desktop and mobile.
  • How the snippet reads next to the URL breadcrumb Google shows.
  • The tags themselves, including Open Graph and Twitter, ready to paste.

The lengths that matter

  • Title: roughly 50–60 characters, or about 580px on desktop.
  • Description: roughly 140–160 characters; mobile cuts off sooner.
  • Pixels beat characters: “Illuminate” is far wider than “lil”, so the tool measures both.

How to write better titles and descriptions

See how your page is likely to appear in Google before you hit publish. Paste a URL or add a title and meta description. The preview shows desktop and mobile search snippets and helps you spot cut-offs, duplicate ideas and weak hooks.

Keep titles punchy and specific. Match the H1 closely. Front-load key terms, then talk benefits. Descriptions don’t “rank” on their own but they do affect clicks, so write them for people first. If you’re stuck, write two options and pick the clearest one.

SERP simulator FAQs

How long should a page title be?

Google truncates by pixel width, not character count, so a rough guide is 50 to 60 characters, or about 580 pixels at the size Google uses on desktop. This tool measures the pixels, so you can see where the cut-off falls.

How long should a meta description be?

About 140 to 160 characters. Mobile cuts off sooner than desktop, and this tool shows both. Get the important part in first, in case it is trimmed.

Does the meta description affect rankings?

Not directly. It affects whether people click, which is why it is worth writing well. Google also rewrites descriptions often, usually when the page has text that matches the search better.

Why does Google show a different title to mine?

Google rewrites titles when it thinks another version fits the page or the search better, often using your H1 or site name. A clear title that matches the page content is rewritten less often.

Is this the same as a SERP preview tool?

Yes. A SERP simulator, SERP preview tool and snippet preview all mean the same thing: a mock-up of how your listing is likely to look in Google results before you publish.

Does it check the live page?

It can. Enter a URL and press Fetch to pull in the current title and description, then edit them and watch the preview update.
