Schema Markup Generator

Build JSON-LD schema for FAQs, local businesses, organisations and breadcrumbs. It runs in your browser, so nothing you type is uploaded.

Build your schema

Add each question and the answer as it appears on the page. Only mark up questions and answers that are visible to visitors.

Your JSON-LD

{}

Paste this into the <head> of the page it describes. Check it afterwards with theSchema.org validator or Google'sRich Results Test.

Which type do I need?

  • FAQ: for questions and answers that appear on the page.
  • Local business: for a business with a location or service area: address, phone, opening hours.
  • Organisation: for the company behind the site: name, logo, contact details and social profiles.
  • Breadcrumbs: for the trail from your homepage to the current page.

How to add it

  1. Fill in the fields. The code updates as you type.
  2. Copy the whole <script> block.
  3. Paste it into the <head> of that page.
  4. Check it with the Rich Results Test or the Schema.org validator.

What schema does, and what it doesn’t

Schema markup tells search engines and AI tools what a page is, in plain terms they can parse: this is a business, here is its address, these are the questions it answers. It doesn’t change what a visitor sees, and it isn’t a ranking trick. What it does is remove guesswork, which matters more now that AI answers are assembled from whatever can be read clearly.

Be careful with FAQ markup in particular. Googlelimited FAQ rich results in 2023to well-known, authoritative government and health sites. Adding FAQ schema still states your answers clearly for anything reading the page, but it won’t expand your listing in Google for most sites. Only mark up content that is genuinely visible on the page: marking up answers that aren’t there is against Google’s guidelines.

If you want the structured data on your site reviewed properly, along with the rest of the technical setup, that’s part of an SEO audit. For how this fits with AI search, see AI SEO.

Schema generator FAQs

What is schema markup?

Schema markup is code that describes what a page is about in a format search engines and AI tools can read. It doesn’t change what visitors see. This generator writes it as JSON-LD, the format Google recommends.

Does FAQ schema still get rich results in Google?

For most sites, no. In August 2023 Google limited FAQ rich results to well-known, authoritative government and health websites. FAQ schema is still worth adding, because it states your questions and answers plainly for search engines and AI tools, but don’t expect the expanded questions in search results.

Where do I put the code?

Paste it into the `<head>` of the page it describes, or anywhere in the HTML body. In WordPress, most SEO plugins have a field for custom code in the header; in Shopify, edit `theme.liquid`. One page can carry more than one block.

Do I need schema on every page?

No. Mark up what the page actually is: your organisation and local business details on the homepage or contact page, breadcrumbs on pages inside a section, and FAQs where questions and answers are genuinely on the page.

Is my data sent anywhere?

No. The generator runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is uploaded to this site or stored.

How do I check it works?

Paste the code into the Schema.org validator for syntax, or Google’s Rich Results Test to see which result types Google recognises.
